Available Hardware

The Bioinformatics Core Facility has the following computing hardware available:

BCF Computational Cluster


  • 1 4-CPU Microway Server (Opteron 2.4Ghz) with 3ware Hardware RAID 5 storage, dual channel gig-E network connectivity, 8 GB of RAM, 650 GB of internal storage, running Rocks 5 (RHEL5).
  • 19 Dual processor Opteron 2.4 Ghz Beowulf Supercomputer with dual 200 GB IDE RAID1/node, 4 GB RAM/node on a channel bonded dual gig-E 1000baseT network, running Rocks 5 (RHEL5).
  • Lustre Parallel Filesystem between compute nodes consisting of 3 TB of available striped storage.

    Alamo Computational Cluster


  • 1 4-CPU VALinux 4450 Server (Xeon 700/1MB L2) with Ultra160 SCSI RAID 5 storage, gigabit network connectivity, 4 GB of RAM, 33/66 GB tape backup, running Rocks 4.2 (RHEL4). Attached external SCSI storage of 4.2 TB.
  • 31 Mixed processor Intel P4/1.8Ghz Intel PIII/500 Beowulf Supercomputer with dual 80 GB IDE RAID1/node, and 512MB RAM/node on a switched 100baseT network, running Rocks 4.2 (RHEL4).
  • Lustre Parallel Filesystem between compute nodes consisting of 642GB of available striped storage.

  • 1 PIII/666 ftp server, running Slackware Linux 9.0
